As many of you know, CompTIA has announced a Windows 7 refresh for their A+ certification. This refresh is expected to affect the A+ certification exams as of January 2011. Here at Transcender, we wanted to help you understand just what the changes mean, but we decided to approach it a little differently than we have in the past. (Don’t worry! We still plan to approach it the old-fashioned way, too! Expect an update to our practice tests next year.)

Last month, I traveled to Houston, Texas to meet Mike Meyers and his team at Total Seminars. I met Mike’s great team and really enjoyed the time I spent with them. The trip was quite the adventure that included a slight fender bender in Houston, a several hour flight delay on my return flight, and then a lovely two-hour traffic delay on I-20 in the wee hours of the morning. But it was what occurred between the fender bender and the flight home that I think will excite you the most.

As many of you know, Mike Meyers is an A+ guru. He is a dynamic speaker and talented writer who many of us have looked to for all things A+. So I sat down with him, and we discussed just what this A+ refresh is all about….with cameras rolling. While we primarily discussed the A+ refresh, we did manage to set aside some time to go over what we knew about the new expiration policy for the A+, Network+, and Security+ certifications. So we have created a video that really has something for everyone!

Keep watch over the coming weeks for an announcement regarding these videos. I think you’ll want to watch them. They’re informative….and best of all, they’re free.

(Oh, yeah. And you’ll finally get to see just what I look like. Unfortunately, you’ll also hear what I sound like. I just cannot manage to get rid of my Alabama twang!)

Just a friendly reminder that you have until December 31, 2010 pass your CompTIA Security+, Network+, or A+ exams to achieve “certification for life” status. As of January 1, 2011, these certifications will be valid for three years from the date of certification. Complete coverage of the CompTIA renewal policy is found here: http://www.comptia.org/certifications/listed/renewal.aspx#one

Microsoft has announced they will be retiring most of the SQL Server 2005, Visual Studio 2005, and BizTalk Server 2006 exams by June 30, 2011.  Exam 70-536 (TS: Microsoft .NET Framework – Application Development Foundation) will remain available, since it is part of the Visual Studio 2008 (.NET 3.5) curriculum.  For a complete list of the newly announced retirements, see the Born to Learn blog.
